Easter Rats

We took some craft supplies to my mother-in-law's house on Easter.  Ringo wanted me to make him a set of these bunny ears that Karin (at Flickr) made for her cats.  Of course we decided to make them for the rats, too!  Even Dylan, my "I can't be bothered because I'm too cool" 14 yr old nephew wanted to make them!

Rat Wrestling (Monday 4 Melanie)

This story is the first in a series called "Mondays for Melanie".  The goal is to help the Glatzmayer family raise awareness about their daughter's syndrome.  Melanie has CdLS.  Her amazing brother, Tommy, wrote a book called, Melanie & Tommy have 2 Pet Rats and 1 Syndrome.  More info after the story....

Rat Wrestling

Melanie & Tommy had always loved rats.  However, a new & unusual breed had taken the world by storm.  These new rats were HUGE!  Tommy & Melanie wanted one of them, but there was a long waiting list!

Their dad, John, heard of a rat wrestling contest & the winning prize was a GIANT RAT!  He entered the competition, but the whole family was a bit nervous because these rats were very difficult to defeat.   Let's see what happened...

Peter's Strange Dream....

Peter had a very bizarre dream last night.  In this dream....

He finished reading his very first novel, The Great Ratsby.

A crazy lady forced him to wear bunny ears!
(I wanna give a shout out to Karin over a Flickr for these bunny ears.  Her creativity inspired us to make these for our rats.)

He sang his lovely bride a powerful rock ballad on their wedding day!

Edmund's Strange Dream...

Edmund also had a strange dream last night. 
In this dream....

He fell in love with a beautiful witch who wouldn't return his affections....

He was being chased by an angry lion!

He was being followed by a bizarre bird-lady!

He found himself in the middle of a frightening war between two tribes of monkey/man hybrids!

He was mistaken for a pony.

Peter & Edmund's Pirate Adventure

Captain Barbarosa and Captain Skallywag were the bravest pirates in the Caribbean, but even THEY were afraid to go after the legendary treasure of Captain Snaggletooth.   That treasure had been lost at sea for nearly 200 years.  Those waters were protected by enormous crabs and poisonous squid.  

One day, the captains found that a couple giant rats had stowed away on their ship.  They were just about to make them walk the plank, when one of them spoke up.  “Captain Skallywag, PLEASE don’t make us walk the plank!  We can help you find the coveted treasure of Snaggletooth".   The pirates liked this idea, so they spared the rats lives.  They sailed together for days and days, and they all became great friends.  Then suddenly, Peter and Edmund spotted the squid and giant crab!  They immediately sprang into action!  They knew the treasure was near!

Edmund wasted no time; he was the first rat over board!  He was very fast and very brave as he lunged for the squid.

The squid lost the battle.  He was no match for Edmund!

Meanwhile, Peter was battling the giant crab.  It was a long fight, but Peter finally won!

However, a most unfortunate thing happened during the battles.  Captain Skallywag accidentally hit his head on the poop deck and fell over board.  Peter was especially devastated and cried: “Don’t go toward the light!  It’s not time for you to visit Davey Jones yet.  Stay with me!!!”.

Suddenly, Peter remembered everything he learned from his Red Cross CPR training and he was able to save the Captain’s life!!!

Peter and Edmund finally found the treasure.  The pirates had grown so fond of the rats that they shared the booty and made them co-captains of their ship!!  From that day forward, they spent their days sailing, drinking grog and basking in the warm Caribbean sun.
